High Barbaree underwent a full keel up restoration from 2000 to 2005. She was completely taken down to the bare wood, removing all the old polyester resin and cloth matting. Any and all deteriorated wood was removed and replaced. The strong White Oak framing was in excellent condition. Marine surveyors and designers were consulted at each stage and full inspection was completed prior to 're-glassing'.  The experts at West Systems were consulted and the restoration was under way in 2000.  As advised by West System, the entire boat was hand rolled 4 individual times with West Epoxy. Glassing began using 12oz cloth engineered specifically for epoxy. Three layers were applied  from the Bulwark to Keel  - completely encapsulating the entire keel. Two extra layers were added at the chine down and 2 more layers were added to the bow, leading aft to the stern section for extra impact protection. All layers were overlapped 9 inches. The entire deck and topsides were covered with one layer with extra attention paid to higher stress areas such as windlass attachment and walking surfaces. The bottom was completely faire with epoxy and the entire boat was painted with 3 coats of Awlgrip.

She underwent complete refit below as well - all wiring, plumbing, hoses, engine bed and mounts, engine, galley etc - all new and installed between 2000 and 2005.
